Our approach on environment guided by UPR charactor "Sumikko"

Tree Planting

Some say wooden pallets are harmful ecologically, but the energy required to process trees is extremely low compared to other materials. Forests are a raw material with the least effect on the environment in the manufacturing process. Besides, trees absorb CO2 and emit oxygen in the process of growing. Therefore, upr regards forests as a sustainable resource and has planted trees in the area of 14 ha in Asia, where we mainly export of lumber, every year. We have been promoting a life with trees.

Raw materials

upr has been introducing wooden pallets made of woods certified by PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Scheme). The PEFC-certified woods are guaranteed to come from a sustainable forest being properly managed. The use of PEFC-certified wood has no harm on the global environment.

Maintenance of Wooden Pallets

Maintenance of Plastic Pallets

Maintenance of plastic pallets is very rare in the industry. Small holes are covered by special sheets using an ultrasonic welder to keep out water and dust, and it extends the life of the pallets.

Recycling

Pallets that reached the end of their lives are recycled into materials for other products. Wooden pallets are crushed in a dedicated crushing facility and recycled into particleboard used for floor coverings and storage racks. Plastic pallets are recycled into plastic pallets again for rental in cooperation with manufacturer partner. Use of the recycled pallets can reduce as much as 3.5 kg CO2 per pallet.
